FFA members and chapters throughout the state checked in over $22, in pennies, nickels, dimes, etc. The Millennium FFA Penny Harvest weigh in was Tuesday, June 13. Convention speakers included: Chris Vitelli, National FFA President Jones Loflin, Motivational Speaker, North Carolina and Rhett Laubach, Motivational Speaker, Oklahoma. Smith FFA State Winning Parliamentary Procedure Team, South Sumter FFA and showcased the top agriscience students and programs. Convention highlights included the naming of the State Star Farmer, Myles Langford of the Trenton FFA State Star in Agribusiness, Ana Perez of the Coral Reef FFA State Star Greenhand, Lauren Dillard of the Dade City FFA State Winner in Prepared Speaking, Amanda Thomas of the Lake Butler FFA State Winner in Extemporaneous Speaking, Erica Der of the J. Rick Rudd, Patricia Garner and Robert Raulerson. This year s recipients of this honor include: Loretta Costin, Carrie Mickey, Susan Kelly, Michele Myers, Kathryn Mclnnis, Bill Handley, Dr. Although many are recognized on the local level, only a few are presented the coveted Honorary State FFA Degree.
Many volunteers throughout the state devote much time and effort to the FFA Organization. The 2000 recipients of the Distinguished Service Citation include: Florida Wildlife Federation, Homes of Merit, Everett Whitehead and Son, R & D Sod Farms, Inc. The selection process is centered around those organizations that have exhibited great interest in supporting the activities of the FFA above and beyond the local community. Industry/Education partnerships have always been held in high esteem among the FFA community with recognition given annually at the State FFA Convention.
